Division 3 Member of the Year Award
How can your chapter recognize
and sponsor the coveted Member of the Year Award??
How can you pick the most deserving member of your chapter to
recognize them and inspire others? I’ve
put together some of the points found in AFSA Manual 700-1, Vol. 4 and
some tips on how your awards program will help your chapter grow. If you follow the guidance for the
Chapter of the Year award you have already got step one complete.
As you are keeping track of what your chapter is doing, keep track
of who is in charge of each activity and who volunteers to help for each
project. In most organizations
you will see a few names that keep popping up.
You will see those dependable members that should be recognized at
both the chapter and division level. Keep track of your members’
volunteer time and the project officers’ time.
Most programs take more time to organize than the volunteers spend
actually completing the project. Keep
track and use the volunteer pins to award these members at chapter level
and then at the end of the year with the Member of the Year Award. Appendix F and G gives you all the
criteria and checklist for submitting the member of the year package.
It does ask for letters of appreciation as attachments, please
include a copy of them. It
will help reinforce your package. Same thing applies here.
Quantify what this member has done for your chapter in membership,
volunteerism, leadership and what the impact of their involvement was.
For example, he/she volunteered 100 hours per month at the
Airmen’s Attic and was recognized as the top volunteer of the base for
that project and received a LOA from the Wing Commander for serving 300
enlisted family members in a two month period.
(Just an example) Bottom
line: You already have great people doing great things.
These people are the ones keeping your chapter going, no one can do
it alone! If possible
recognize your Member of the Year at a public setting (your monthly
meeting or Commander’s Call), it will prompt others to get involved. The deadline for this years nominations is 14 Feb 05. Please get your packages completed on time to be eligible for competition at the division level. |
