Division 3 Patriot Essay Contest Rules

Division Responsibilities

Provide essay criteria

Provide parental release statement

Provide the annual theme NLT 1 July of each year

Provide a suspense date for submissions

Obtain judges to read and select top three winners

Announce winners and provide plaques at the Div 3 Convention

Chapter Responsibilities

Coordinate with your school board for easy communication with all schools with 8th grade students

Consider including public and private schools - you decide how many schools or districts you can handle

Inform schools up front what the criteria is and any awards to be given and how they will be presented

Ensure parental release form is signed before forwarding to Division

Set-up an essay board to establish winners

Submit your top three essays to Division NLT established awards suspense date

Award local winners as appropriate

Essay Criteria

One typed page or two hand-written pages

Applies to the annual theme

Eligible students are in their eighth grade

Spelling and grammar - 0 - 15 points

Logical flow - 0 - 15 points

Content - 0 - 70 points
